Black Friday falls on November 24, 2023. We broke down what you can expect this Black Friday 2023 shopping season so you can save big on the hottest products.

Are you wondering what day Black Friday falls on this year? The major shopping holiday always takes place the day after Thanksgiving, which means it's on Friday, November 24 in 2023 – the fourth Friday in November.

This year, most "official" Black Friday sales started on Thanksgiving Day (or even before depending on the store). Black Friday sales extend through Black Friday weekend and into Cyber Monday. We call this Cyber Week. As we've seen in recent years, plenty of retailers are hosting weeks-long Black Friday sales in 2023.

As we gear up for Cyber Monday, be sure to check out our guide to the Best Cyber Monday sales.

Black Friday 2023 predictions

Here are some shopping trends we expect to see this Black Friday – and some we are already seeing.

1. Sales continue to start early in the season

The "Black Friday creep," that we've witnessed over the past few years, is not going anywhere. Earlier in October, we saw Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart all host major sales, and we saw some of these retailers launch pre-Black Friday sales at the start of November as well.

Lowe's and Home Depot, notably, have been hosting pre-Black Friday sales for all of November. Meanwhile, their official Black Friday sales are likely to start on or just before Thanksgiving.

While some doorbusters and hot items will last only minutes on Black Friday itself, plenty of online deals will remain available throughout the entire long weekend.

2. More mobile and app shopping

Retailers have been working hard to improve their online mobile shopping experiences, and it seems to be paying off. According to Adobe Analytics Insights, Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Week set new mobile records this year. On Thanksgiving, 55% of sales came in via smartphone (up from 51% in 2021) and 51% of sales came in via smartphone during Cyber Week overall (up from 46% in 2021).

3. Retail memberships center stage

Black Friday shopping perks for those with retailer memberships has been a growing trend over the past few years.

This year, we have already seen retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and Target promote savings that are exclusively available to those who become members of their rewards programs. In some cases, these programs are free to join (looking at you Target!) and in others you will need to pay to have access (think Amazon Prime).

So far this Black Friday shopping season, we have seen Target launch a Deal of the Day program that offers a new deal to its Circle Members daily. We have also seen Best Buy offer early access to Black Friday deals to its My Best Buy Plus and My Best Buy Total members.

We also know that Walmart is offering Walmart+ members three hours of early access to its Black Friday sales.

4. Buy now, pay later programs more popular

We predicted that buy now, pay later programs would increase in popularity during Black Friday 2022 – and they did. According to Adobe Analytics Insights, buy now, pay later orders rose 85%, and revenue increased 88%, compared to the prior week. We expect this trend to continue throughout 2023, and into Black Friday shopping season in 2023.

What the Black Friday 2023 season holds remains to be seen. We will be sharing all the latest news and insight surrounding Black Friday 2023 to guarantee you get the best deals possible.
